PetroVietnam Oil Corporation (PVOIL) has become the first petroleum retailer in Vietnam to introduce charging stations for electric cars.

On July 2, 2020, the PVOIL held an inauguration ceremony to put into operation one solar power system and two electric car charging stations at the Le Van Hien petroleum station in Khue My ward, Ngu Hanh Son district, Da Nang city and another at Hoa Xuan petroleum station in Hoa Xuan ward, Cam Le district, also in Da Nang city, belong to PVOIL Mien Trung.

PVOIL has become the first company in Vietnam that applies solar power at vehicle charging stations.

The project in researching, installing charging stations for electric cars using solar energy at petroleum stations is the result of cooperation between PVOIL and Electricity of Vietnam’s Central Power Corporation (EVNCPC). This is a combination between traditional petroleum station and a modern electric car charging station using rooftop solar power system installed on the roof of the existing station. EVNCPC has a strategy to develop electric car applications and a network of electric vehicle charging stations while PVOIL is a major petroleum retailer with a nationwide petroleum station network. With the development trend of electric car, installing electric vehicle charging stations at petroleum stations could bring advantages to PVOIL and EVNCPC’s development.

PVOIL's solar system at Le Van Hien petroleum station, which was installed by EVNCPC, has a capacity of 13.86 kWp. The facility has 36 solar panels with a capacity of 385 Wp and a 3-power-phase inverter set with capacity of 12 kW. The charging station uses power from both solar system and national electricity grid. When the station is inactive, solar power will be transmitted back to the grid. The solar system and power grid will supply power to the charging station alternately.

The electric vehicle charging products (EV Quick Charger) used at PVOIL are researched and manufactured by EVNCPC. Electric cars need 20 to 30 minutes for a full charge. The charging station has a capacity of 60kW, using a 380VAC supply from a 3-phase 4-wire low voltage grid. Its has a wide charging voltage range at 300 ÷ 750VDC.

Like purchasing petroleum at PVOIL petroleum station, customers who charge their car at the station can procced payment by scanning QR code on Mobile Banking apps that have connection with VNPay.

The product is manufactured in accordance with CHAdeMO charging standard of Asia and can be expanded to integrate several standards on the same charging station (CCS-Europe, GB / T-China). It is able to increase capacity to 120 kW to meet charging demand for trucks or electric buses.

The charging product is designed with bilingual display screen in Vietnamese and English, that helps customer to manipulate car charging easily. It is equipped with an emergency switch to stop the operation and charging process.

The charging station in Da Nang is PVOIL pilot program preparing to building a nationwide system of electric vehicle charging stations. PVOIL, which has more than 3,000 petroleum stations nationwide, will be the pioneer in building infrastructure for electric vehicles in the future, Mr. Le Xuan Trinh - Vice President of PVOIL said. PVOIL will expand and effectively operate electric vehicle charging stations in its petroleum station system, establishing a sector in new energy segment, he added.
