PVOIL – a place for sharing loving arms
26.12.2021
The peak of the pandemic has passed, the pain still remains. Losses that children in Ho Chi Minh City’s Nha Be district were huge. They have been partly shared thanks to the loving arms of PVOIL.
On the remaining days of September 2021, the cruelty of the Covid-19 pandemic took away lives of the parents and grandmother of Thao An(*) who is just 7 years old. The remaining relatives of the girl are her great-grandparents who are over 70 years old.
The family does not have income besides the meager pension of her great grandparents and wages from repairing electronic products and household appliances. Without the pandemic, their ordinary life was hard enough.
During the days with the pandemic, An’s great grandfather’s job did not bring a stable income. The money saved in the family gradually dried up. Sometimes, the family had to rely on rice and vegetable from their neighbors.
Xuan Anh(*), 16 years old, is also a boy who lost his father due to the pandemic. If Thao An is too young to understand the pain, he has realized his responsibility since his father's death. The 11th-grader has become the breadwinner of the family, supporting his mother and his third-grade younger brother.
Thao An and Xuan Anh are among several children who became orphaned after the 4th wave of Covid-19 pandemic in Ho Chi Minh City.
Sharing this pain, PVOIL has coordinated with the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City’s Nha Be district to support and care for 46 children. There will be many influencing factors to the economy, but PVOIL will try to overcome all difficulties to support until the children turn 18 years old.
On December 23, PVOIL organized the first round of support for the children. Specifically, 4 children who lost both parents receive VND 2 million a month each. 42 children who lost either father or mother receive VND 1 million a month each. The total amount of support is VND600 million a year.
“The 4th pandemic wave has caused tragic stories when many children are too young to be able to remember the image of their parents, who lost due to the pandemic. In an instant, they became orphans. We understood that the children have experienced the heaviest mental losses when they lost their parents. Nothing can compensate for this great loss. The future is ahead of them, they have to take care of themselves, arrange themselves when there are no parents like other children. We hope to be able to provide some comfort for them to develop after this event. In addition to the material support from PVOIL, the Trade Union and organizations of PVOIL will continue to have activities to share and connect spiritually for the children, especially on Tet holidays," said Mr. Doan Duy Cong, Chairman of PVOIL Trade Union.
“This is a very meaningful activity of PVOIL. It contributes to the government and mass organizations to share difficulties and join hands to contribute fighting the pandemics and stabilizing people's lives, said Ms. Truong Kim An, chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Nha Be district.
