PVOIL Accelerates the Application of Science – Technology and Innovation

On July 9, 2025, in Ho Chi Minh City, PetroVietnam Oil Corporation (PVOIL) successfully organized its first Conference on Science – Technology and Innovation (STI), marking a significant milestone in shaping its research and development strategy toward 2030.

The conference was chaired by Mr Cao Hoai Duong - Secretary of Party Committee, Chairman of Board of Directors; Mr Nguyen Dang Trinh - Vice Secretary of Party Committee, President & CEO; Ms Le Thi Thu Huong – Vice President and Chairwoman of the Corporation’s Scientific Council; along with the Management Board and key personnel of the Corporation.

In his opening remarks, Mr Nguyen Dang Trinh - Vice Secretary of Party Committee, President & CEO emphasized the crucial role of science – technology (ST) in the country’s new development phase, aligned with the orientations of the Party and Government. PVOIL is proud to be a pioneer in applying ST and digital transformation in the petroleum business. Customer-focused digital platforms such as PVOIL Easy, PVOIL 4U, PVOIL B2B, and many other technology-based applications have showcased innovation, delivered practical results, enhanced customer connectivity, and significantly contributed to increased output and business efficiency. Given the rapid advancement of technology and the country's development demands, Mr. Trinh stated that the Corporation must build an STI development strategy closely tied to its business operations in order to enhance competitiveness, reduce costs, boost output, and optimize performance.

The summary report on PVOIL’s STI activities from 2023 to 2025 showed positive results thanks to reformed policies and the widespread impact across the system. Notably, in 2023–2024, the Scientific Council approved 23 STI tasks, 7 of which generated total economic benefits of VND 256 billion. R&D activities have become more diverse and in-depth, producing many useful applications.

The Scientific Council of the Corporation also outlined the STI research directions for the 2026–2030 period in six key focus areas: general management; depots and retail stations; production and processing; business and marketing; energy transition; and human resource development.

To further clarify the research and application outcomes and future directions of STI and digital transformation at PVOIL, the conference featured in-depth presentations on topics such as: internal chatbot – an AI-powered solution for enhancing STI and operations at PVOIL; the roadmap for developing technologies and new products in petrochemical processing (including research on biofuels and petroleum additives/catalysts); and AI applications in training (such as E-learning software). These presentations demonstrated PVOIL’s ability to quickly adapt to new technology trends to improve business operations, training, and workforce quality, and also highlighted the encouraging initial achievements.

Ms Le Thi Thu Huong – Vice President and Chairwoman of the Scientific Council praised the Council’s recent achievements, citing the active involvement of subcommittees and affiliated units; many STI research projects have been recognized and delivered high value; Scientific and technological activities have had connection, sharing and cooperation between the Corporation and the units.. She also identified challenges, limitations, and proposed solutions, while suggesting potential approaches and areas for applying STI; she called for subsidiaries to increase resource investment in STI, encourage individual creativity to achieve collective breakthroughs, and enhance the quality of STI activities in the near future.

Many discussions at the conference focused on mechanisms to promote STI, practical research implementation, and direction-setting. Key suggestions included expanding external partnerships, acknowledging even minor initiatives, promptly rewarding outstanding contributions, and cultivating professional passion to foster an innovative culture among staff, thereby continuously improving performance and contributing to the Corporation's and its subsidiaries’ growth.

In his closing remarks, Mr Cao Hoai Duong - Secretary of Party Committee, Chairman of Board of Directors reaffirmed PVOIL’s ongoing commitment to STI and its many encouraging results. He emphasized that ST is one of the “four pillars” for national development as stated in Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo. It is also a key driver for breakthroughs and faster progress toward business objectives. Recognizing its importance, the Corporation’s Party Committee Executive Board will issue an Action Program on “Breakthrough in the Development of Science – Technology, Innovation and Digital Transformation for the 2025–2030 period at PetroVietnam Oil Corporation,” with clear perspectives, goals, tasks, solutions, and implementation frameworks to be executed uniformly across the entire system.

The first STI Conference served as a powerful catalyst for promoting STI activities across the Corporation, aiming to achieve greater success, enhance productivity, increase output, boost competitiveness, and improve PVOIL’s business performance in the years ahead.
