Petroleum stations are crowded, lined up as “dragon and snake”

November 1st, 2019 was the only day of the refund program. It was organized for the first time in Vietnam and customers could buy petroleum at 618 stations of PVOIL and COMECO by using MoMo e-wallet. The customers got 50% refund when paying by MoMo e-wallet.
The first transaction of the program was made at 00:03 of the day at COMECO 7 petroleum station on Cach Mang Thang Tam Street, Tan Binh District, Ho Chi Minh City.
As of 23:59 on the same day, there were 43,099 electronic transactions with MoMo e-wallet in the whole retail outlet system.
This is a skyrocketing number of transactions compared to about 1,500 electronic payment transactions daily. At the same time, sales volume of the petroleum stations in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi on November 1st increased from 15% -30% compared to weekdays.
At PVOIL Petroleum No. 5 on Le Van Viet Street, District 9, Ho Chi Minh City at 08:30, we saw a lot of customers using their MoMo wallet account to proceed payment when buying fuel.
Ms. Doan Thi Ngoc Xuan, 29, living in District 9, said that she used MoMo e-wallet for a long time, but this is the first time she used it for buying petroleum. She felt the transaction was fast. It took her just a few seconds.
“It is very convenient to buy gasoline and pay electronically. I am used to using MoMo wallet so when I go out, I rarely bring cash, prefer paying by machine”- Ms. Xuan said.
Ms. To Thai Nguyen, 30, also living in District 9, said: “I have been using MoMo wallet for one year. This is the first time I have used MoMo wallet to buy gasoline, which is more convenient than using cash. It is quick. In the future, I will continue to use MoMo wallet to pay for fueling PVOIL and hope there are more promotions.”
At PVOIL petroleum station No. 4 at Vo Van Ngan Street, Thu Duc District, Ho Chi Minh City, number of customers came to buy gasoline with MoMo much more than expected. Mr. Nguyen Tan Khoi, head of the station had to went out and support the customers.
Holding his tablet, Khoi instructed customer to pay with MoMo e-wallet at the station.
At petroleum station of COMECO, an affiliate of PVOIL, there were many customers came to buy gasoline and request payment with MoMo. Nguyen Pham Toan Chau, head of petroleum No. 17 on Bach Dang Street, Binh Thanh District, Ho Chi Minh City, said there were so many people wanted to pay with MoMo, and he had to mobilise more code reading machines.
Usually, the station has only one code scanner, now he had to mobilize 2 machines and mobilized more staff from MoMo to support customers. For the first time, he saw people queuing to buy petrol and paying with electronic wallets.
Petroleum stations of PVOIL and COMECO nationwide received huge number of customers on November 1st. The customers are young people, middle-aged, students, workers and. Some customers have been using e-wallets for a long time.
Staff at the petroleum stations enthusiastically instructed customers to perform the payment. Customers were excited when waiting for petroleum. Due to large number of customers coming to the stations, they had to wait for their turns, causing traffic jam at some stations in the city.
In Hanoi, despite of the rain, several customers patiently queued in line for payment.
Preparations have been prepared by PVOIL, COMECO and MoMo many days before the program. Technical equipment, personnel, goods ... are strengthened units to promptly serve, to meet the needs of customers.
By 22:00, number of customer queuing for petroleum in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City remained.
Payment with a quick touch does not take much time. It also offer preferential treatment from the refund program. So most customers who came to experience the service were very excited, satisfied and said to choose this payment method for the next transaction.
PVOIL and partners providing electronic payment applications trust the number of customers using this form of payment when buying gasoline will increase. This will become habit in modern payment trend.
