PVOIL Successfully Hosts 4th "Excellent Operation Team" Competition for Petroleum Warehouse Block

On May 10th, PetroVietnam Oil Corporation (PVOIL) hosted the 4th iteration of its "Excellent Operation Team" competition, designed to showcase and enhance the skills of its petroleum warehouse staff. The event was held at the Nha Be Petroleum Depot Enterprise in Ho Chi Minh City.

The competition was attended by Mrs. Nghiem Thuy Lan, a member of the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group Party Committee and President of the Vietnam Petroleum Trade Union, and Mrs. Do Thai Ha, Head of the Legal Policy and Labor Relations Department of the union.

On the PVOIL side, there were Mr. Cao Hoai Duong - Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the Board of Management; Mr. Doan Van Nhuom - Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, President and CEO; Mr. Nguyen Tuan Tu - Deputy General Director, Head of the Organizing Committee; Mr. Doan Duy Cong, President of the Group's Trade Union; along with members of the Board of Directors, the Board of General Directors, heads of specialized departments of the group, leaders of affiliated units, member units, and over 300 contestants and supporters from PVOIL's units.

The competition saw the participation of 16 teams, representing 18 different PVOIL units. A total of 128 employees took part, representing various roles within the PVOIL petroleum depot/warehouse system, including goods delivery personnel, technicians, and safety officers.

The teams showcase their professional knowledge and skills in two distinct parts: theory and practice. The theory section, structured as an engaging game show, tests participants on a wide range of topics, including commodity management, equipment operation at petroleum depots, safety and hygiene protocols, fire prevention and response, customer communication, and service quality assessment criteria based on Project 808. Additionally, they must demonstrate their ability to handle real-world scenarios encountered in depot management and operation. In the practical portion, teams are evaluated on their ability to connect hoses, transfer specified quantities of goods between tanks, and perform firefighting and rescue procedures.

The competition serves as a dynamic platform for professional development and skill enhancement, allowing petroleum depot staff to refresh their theoretical knowledge and refine practical expertise. This in turn enables them to better contribute to the Corporation's overall operational efficiency and business success.

A distinctive feature of PVOIL's skill competition is its unique selection process. Each unit submits a complete roster of eligible employees, and the Organizing Committee then randomly selects the final participants. This participant list is revealed just seven days before the competition. This approach fosters a culture of continuous learning and skill development across PVOIL's petroleum warehouse staff, as any individual could be chosen to represent their unit. As a result, the competition serves as a comprehensive evaluation of the overall workforce's capabilities, rather than solely highlighting the top performers from each unit.

In his opening address at the competition, Mr. Cao Hoai Duong, PVOIL's Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the Board of Management, emphasized the critical role of the petroleum storage system in the company's production and business activities. He highlighted PVOIL's recent efforts to enhance the management and operational efficiency of this system through investments in infrastructure, equipment upgrades, and brand image enhancement. These initiatives have resulted in a network of petroleum warehouses that are increasingly spacious, clean, modern, and professional.

Mr. Cao Hoai Duong stressed that while these improvements are significant, the workforce remains the most crucial element in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the storage system. As such, PVOIL is committed to continually improving the expertise, skills, and workmanship of its petroleum warehouse staff. The "Excellent Operation Team" competition, with its distinctive format and content, serves as a key component of this ongoing effort. Mr. Cao Hoai Duong encouraged all participants to leverage the competition as an opportunity to learn, share knowledge, and gain valuable experience from their peers, ultimately leading to even greater contributions to their respective units.

Observing the competition, Mrs. Nghiem Thuy Lan, President of the Vietnam Petroleum Trade Union, commended the meticulous and professional organization of the event, from the logistical arrangements and facilities to the content of the training and skills assessments. She emphasized that the competition provided a valuable opportunity not only for the participating teams and contestants but for all PVOIL employees to learn, enhance, and update their knowledge and skills. Mrs. Lan praised this inclusive approach as a highly effective and practical model, showcasing PVOIL's innovative approach to workforce development.

Mr. Dinh Hong Hai, a warehouse operator from PVOIL Phu Tho, shared his excitement about his first-time participation in the competition. "This is my first time participating in the competition. I only found out I was selected on May 3rd. Before that, everyone in my unit studied the theoretical materials and practiced the practical skills together. Since I was assigned to compete in all four categories, I had to prepare for everything." He expressed his appreciation for the random selection process, stating, "I think it's a fair and effective way to ensure equal opportunities for everyone. It allows experienced staff to showcase their expertise while giving newer employees a valuable learning experience."

Mr. Phan Quoc Hoi, a fire prevention and fighting specialist from PVOIL Central Region, shared that this was his second time being randomly selected to participate in the competition, having worked at the unit for 20 years. He emphasized how the competition has been a valuable learning experience, providing insights into work processes, training organization, safe work practices, and situation handling. He also noted that the entire warehouse staff diligently studied together in preparation for the competition, even though the team members were only announced a week before the event.

Mr. Nguyen Quang Dinh, a member of the Petromekong + PVOIL Bac Lieu joint team, has 14 years of experience in pipeline technology operations at the Petromekong petrol pump station. This marked his first time being selected for the competition. He noted, "Each team consists of 8 direct workers, and the participant list is only revealed a week before the competition. Leading up to that announcement, everyone diligently studies and sharpens their knowledge. The competition content closely mirrors our daily tasks; how we work is reflected in the skills assessment. All warehouse operators are expected to be proficient in tasks like tank transfers, fire safety, and hose connections."

After a day of intense and exciting competition, with results often decided by mere points or seconds, the 4th PVOIL Petroleum Depot Skill Competition "Excellent Operation Team" in 2024 concluded successfully. The competition results are as follows:
